About
Open medieval histories in source-faithful and reader’s editions.
Open Chronicles is an independent open-access project that prepares free English editions of medieval historical writing from its original languages—so readers are not blocked by paywalls, missing translations, or prose that only specialists can use.
Who
Directed by Paul McMurry. Published source-faithful translations use the credit line:
Translated from the [source language] with AI assistance, edited by Paul McMurry

Status
This site is the public home for the project. Volume 1, Peter Tudebode, and Volume 2, Yaḥyā al-Anṭākī on al-Ḥākim, and Volume 3, Yaḥyā?s Eastern Frontier, are published. Errors in published editions can be reported via the Corrections page.
What we don’t claim
- These are reading editions, not critical editions of the underlying source texts.
- The translations do not sanitize medieval religious hostility or violence.
